Life
Courage - a perfect sensibility of the measure of danger, and a mental
willingness to endure it.
I was born on February 8, 1820 in Lancaster, Ohio to a family where my dad was a successful lawyer and a supreme court justice. However he died when I was 9 and my family went through some hard times. Eventually I went to west point where I passed as 6th in my class, and went on to pursue a military career. I fought against the Seminole in their raids, but got stationed in California during the Mexican-American war, where I quit, got married, and became a banker during the gold rush, only to quit because of the panic of 1857. After leaving Kanas from no success of practicing law, I moved to Louisiana where I taught at a military academy, and warned my secessionist friends about the cost of war with the north. Then I joined the military where I fought and rose in the ranks to the point where I became Ulysses S. Grant's right hand man and best friend, but it wasn't until after my success as a commander in the battle of Shiloh, where I was given 60,000 men and burned the entire state of Georgia to the ground in my celebrated march to the sea. Eventually after we won the war I was promoted to Head General where I protected rail workers from hostile Indians, I retired in 1884 to spend the rest of my life in New York City where I spoke at parties and did many other affairs until my death in 1891.
The Civil War 10 Things I Did
I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is
only those who
have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and
groans of the wounded who
cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for

Quotes
War is cruelty. There is no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is,
the sooner it will be over.
